Prince of Wales Investiture “Red” Chair
Known as “the Red Chair”, from the Prince of Wales's Investiture, which was held at Caernarfon Castle in 1969.
Designed by Lord Snowden, and with the help of Carl Toms and John Pound, 4,600 copies were produced by the Remploy factory in Bridgend South Wales. The chairs’ frames are beechwood with seats and backs constructed from preformed plywood, veneered in olive ash and stained in a vermillion red.
This chair has survived in excellent condition, (the seat fabric is a rare, unused piece of the original textile woven specially for the Investiture. The foam filling has been renewed).
